Stella are hanging on the Julia for the time being, they might use her on Kotka-Sillamäe service until visa-freedom comes in effect on ferry traffic to St. Petersburg. Also, even if Stella's passenger division kicks the bucket you have to remember they have healthy freight operations to the company will probably survive.

While I freely admit the current prime minister of Finland is an ignorant, self-centered idiot who fancies himself as the second coming of Urho Kekkonen, I can't really say I'd see the shipping company problems as symptons of the international financial crises. The service to St. Pete's was a risk (all attempts made after the fall of the Soviet Union have failed) and as such the failure is not a surprise. And with SSC (and Nordic Jet Line, who will probably not restart their service next spring) their exit was to be expected once Tallink and Viking get their new much more economical fast ships in gear.

The SuperSeaCat website currently reads "SuperSeaCat traffic has been terminated." and has information on how to get refunds. So seems that's that. Presumably the ships will go to Aegean Speed Lines in Greece following the closure of service.

When does the change come in? who will it apply to?

I would imagine the SSC vessels will indeed end up on services between Greece and Italy, there also seems to be a growing market for this type of vessel in the far east.

SuperSeaCat was reportedly declared bankrupt yesterday. So probably no coming back for Sherwood's wife's cats in the Baltic.

I think SuperCat, part of Aboitiz Jebsen Transport Corp (Norway/Phil joint venture) operates this type of ferries between Cebu and Ormoc at least in the Phils.

But they seem to have cut back as well. Maybe new demand since Sulpicio seems to be losing its license there after the Princess of the Stars sinking in June and stroke of the CEO lately...?
